Design: Deciding on Design

Design has a nearly incalculable impact on your message. It can make your website more compelling, your direct mail more readable, your PowerPoint more memorable, your advertising more persuasive. Even if you are not directly responsible for buying design, you probably have to evaluate and approve designed materials before your audience sees them.

This course is a not-too-deep dive into graphic design, providing just enough information to help you look more carefully and decide more wisely before approving anything that visually represents your organization.

You’ll learn the basics of layout, color, typography, visual identity, and more from co-teachers Andy Goodman and Jim Bernard.

Essentials

Schedule:
The course is comprised of three one-hour classes scheduled over consecutive weeks. Check our calendar...

Who will benefit:
Anyone in your organization who must evaluate or approve designed materials.

The H word:
Between classes, students will be asked to do a little light homework: you’ll gather and submit samples of your organization’s professionally designed pieces, along with your own evaluation of them. Completing the homework assignment is not mandatory, but students who do will benefit from applying concepts discussed in class.
